Batch #1 is in bottles (ahem, batch #1 that actually worked…no reason to bottle sour beer), and should be ready by Thursday the 12th. 6 growlers and 24 bombers of a classic English ale that I’m calling, oddly enough, “Pete’s Classic Ale” … weird, I know. I’m out there.
Batch #2 is fermenting away, this one is a Scottish Heavy Ale that we added a hefty amount (3lbs) of dark spray malts to, so it should turn out thick, rich, and fairly potent. Initial readings indicate a possible range of 6%-7% but we’ll have to wait for the final gravity reading to be sure. This batch begins a joint beer-brewing venture with one Josiah Hooten, of Hooten brothers fame (I guess only if you know Isaac or Ethan…) and this was actually his malt extract and my malts, so a true joint-venture. Co-worker Andrew Van Vossen came to see the magic first-hand because he is interested in brewing himself. Altogether a good evening!
…but wait, there’s more…
Afterwards, to celebrate, we went down to Marble here in Albuquerque to get some fine local microbrew. Little did we know that in very short order we would be treated to a personal tour by one of the owners/brewers. Fantastic. A detailed view of every step, with descriptions of the process for non-brewing savvy among us. Pictures to follow…I have yet to make my awesome script for uploading pics directly to my blog from my iPhone. Be prepared.
